Unique Variations On A Cohesive Theme

OVERVIEW
Num Pang, co-founded by Chef Ben Daitz, brings the vibrant flavors of Southeast Asia to Manhattan and beyond.
Named the “#1 Fast Casual” chain by Zagat, these restaurants have become a go-to spot for New Yorkers. With six locations in NYC and one in Boston, Daitz wanted to capture the essence of each location’s unique neighborhood while remaining true to the brand–all without overspending. They tasked EDG with translating the essence of Num Pang’s vibrant and gritty aesthetic into practical, cost-effective designs suited to these varied settings. From concept to execution, our team delivered functional yet stylish spaces that handled the demands of a fast-casual environment while remaining true to the brand’s values.

APPROACH
Working closely with Chef Ben Daitz and the kitchen staff, we optimized the kitchen and food preparation areas to meet their specific operational needs, ensuring efficiency for staff and patrons.
We integrated durable, budget-conscious materials like raw concrete floors as well as new materials mixed with the existing wall and ceiling finishes. This kept costs down while reinforcing the urban aesthetic Num Pang is known for. Adding urban-inspired music and graffiti by local artists further enhanced the customer experience, making each location a unique reflection of its neighborhood.

IMPACT
By adhering to a stringent budget and timeline, we ensured each Num Pang location was completed on schedule, allowing ownership to capitalize on free rent periods and open their doors to eager customers without delay.
The result is a series of restaurants that not only serve up some of the best Southeast Asian food in the city but also embody the gritty, urban charm that has become synonymous with the Num Pang brand. The collaboration between EDG and Num Pang successfully expanded the restaurant’s footprint while staying true to its core identity.
