Designing A Rooftop Worthy Of The View

All Projects

OVERVIEW

At the heart of Manhattan's east side, this 36-story residential tower in Murray Hill offers panoramic views of the East River and the Empire State Building with unbeatable comfort and convenience.

Kibel, a real estate agency, was interested in maximizing the value of existing spaces and wanted to transform the rooftop pool into a private oasis in the sky. Our restoration team redesigned approximately 10,000 square feet of the property's shared roof area, setting the stage for our design team to refinish and reimagine the pool and surrounding deck. This work, new materials, and lush plant placements create a world-class rooftop amenity space worthy of the stunning view.

APPROACH

Reworking the space to maximize the view.

EDG’s restoration team extended the elevators to expand rooftop access, reworked the egress and circulation routes, increased loading, and performed other structural work to allow our design team to imagine an elevated plinth that lives up to the surrounding views of the East River and the Empire State Building. Working with landscape architects, our design opened roof sections with added stairwells, windows, and accordion doors. We surrounded the reimagined pool area with new paving and wooden decking, installed a new perimeter glass guard system, and added a |variety of curated plants to create a revitalized green space, some of which is visible from the street.

IMPACT

EDG's work expanded the outdoor amenity space to 10,000 square feet, which includes a pool, lush gardens, and pergolas—creating a space to gather and enjoy 360-degree city views.

The reimagining imbues the address with a unique character and creates a coveted outdoor destination for the buildings' 300 tenants. The result is a dramatic "Before and After" that fulfills the client's brief to maximize the potential of the building's existing space, enhance the tenant's quality of life, and increase long-term property value.
