A Bold Entrance for a Creative Workspace

All Projects

OVERVIEW

Skyline’s reception area in Long Island City lacked a distinctive character and practical functionality.

The existing desk was uncomfortable for daily use, and the space failed to make a strong first impression. Skyline Restorations turned to EDG, leveraging a trusted relationship between the two companies, to design a custom reception desk and a striking decorative wall. The goal was to create a more welcoming and visually compelling entrance that balances artistic expression with improved usability.

Approach

APPROACH

We focused on optimizing ergonomics and circulation while infusing the space with artistic expression.

The reception desk was carefully dimensioned to improve comfort and usability for staff, while the surrounding layout was adjusted to facilitate seamless movement. To create an impactful first impression, we designed a bespoke 3D-printed wall that adds depth, texture, and intrigue. This feature transforms the reception area into a dynamic environment, engaging visitors as they pause upon entry.

3D PRINTED ARCHITECTURAL SURFACE

At the heart of the lobby’s design, a custom 3D-printed installation serves as a bold focal point, merging advanced fabrication with artistic expression.

Suspended in front of a backlit wall, the intricate lattice structure allows light to cascade across its undulating fins, creating a dynamic sense of depth. The varying thickness of the printed elements produces a mesmerizing moiré effect as visitors move through the space. To achieve a refined finish, an automotive expert meticulously coated the 20-foot-wide piece, enhancing its sculptural presence and seamless integration into the lobby’s design.

IMPACT

Though the project is ongoing, the design’s impact is already evident.

The custom 3D-printed wall is a one-of-a-kind installation, reinforcing EDG's commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. Meanwhile, the improved reception desk will enhance daily workflow and comfort for staff. Together, these elements redefine the entry experience, merging practicality with artistic identity.
